ONTOLOGY - the nature of reality - "the knowable" -
critical realist! There is a reality but it can never be fully apprehended. The natural laws that drive it can only be incompletely understood

relativist constructivism! realiTIES! as mental constructions, THEY are SOCIALLY& EXPERIENTIALLY based. LOCAL & SPECIFIC. Individual in CONTENT & FORM
EPISTEMOLOGY - relationship between Inquirer & the Knowable
objectivist: distant, non interactive, bias excluded from outcome         (this cannot be achieved to 100%)
modified objectivist - emphasis on critical tradition and community
subjectivist - values mediate Inquiry
subjectivist constructivist -final product as outcome of interaction between inquirer and inquired
 (this especially applicable if inquirer somehow part of the community/ personal ties

METHODOLOGY - how should inquirer go about finding knowledge
experimental - hypothesis stated in propositional form, then empirically tested (experiement, observation)
modified experimental - inquiry in more natural settings, Qualitative Methods!, grounded theory,  DISCOVERY as part of the inquiry process
dialogic transformative - energize and facilitate transformation (in production, as result, or to the audience?)
hermeneutic, dialectic - compare, contrast with the aim of finding one on which there is substantial consensus



1  Ghost (dir.Nick Broomfield, 2006) A young Chinese girl is smuggled into the UK so she can support her son and family in China.


2  Born Into Brothels (dir. Zaba Briski, Ross Kauffamnn, 2004) Two documentary filmmakers chronicle their time in Sonagchi, Calcutta and the relationships they developed with children of prostitutes who work the city's notorious red light district.

3  The Day My God Died (dir. Andrew Levine, 2003) Filmed in Nepal and India this documentary presents the stories of young girls whose lives have been shattered by the child sex slave trade. The film provides actual footage from inside the brothels of Bombay, known even to the tourists as "The Cages," captured with "spy camera" technology.

4  Holly (dir. Guy Moshe, 2006) indie movies onlinePatrick, an American dealer in stolen artefacts meets Holly, a twelve-year-old girl sold by her parents and destined for prostitution. But when she disappears, he determines to find and rescue her.

5  I am Slave (dir. Gabriel Range, 2010)A thriller set in London's slave trade and centered on a woman's fight for freedom.
